About MEDIHONEY®

MEDIHONEY® is an advanced wound care dressing that is supported by over 160 pieces of evidence demonstrating its clinical ability to promote the removal of necrotic tissue and advance a wound toward healing. In a randomized controlled trial, the mean healing time was significantly faster for wounds treated with MEDIHONEY® impregnated dressings when compared to conventional dressings4.

History of honey use in wound care
Honey has been used in wound healing for centuries. Evidence for its’ wide range of medicinal use has been found in ancient writings such as the Edwin Smith Papyrus in the 17th century BC. Honey was used during World War I and II. Only in the last decade have microbiologists begun to understand the uniqueness of the Leptospermum species.

Testimonials

  • My condition was deteriorating fast as my arms and legs where going rapidly black and necrotic. Trying to get a proper diagnosis was a minefield. As chance has it, a Doctor came in on rotation from New Zealand and he said I was suffering from an infection called Mycobaterium Marinarum which is carried by infected fish. It causes Tuberculosis in fish but can cause necrotic wounds in humans.
Medihoney was advised by them and they sent at first samples and then introduced my Doctor and Nurses at the G.P. to Medihoney dressings. This was applied to both areas along with the Medihoney barrier cream to the surrounding areas and this was done twice a week. Wound reduction in both areas has been only what I can describe as miraculous. Usually with my condition any mild trauma to skin results in a necrotic areas but I have found that if I apply the Medihoney barrier cream post knock or bang nothing comes to the surface...

MEDIHONEY® has been a life-saver. I have uncontrollable diabetes and have experienced many painful, non-healing wounds on my feet which at times have required me to be in a wheel chair. From the very first time my doctor used MEDIHONEY®, it made a difference. My wounds cleaned up and got better. This product is one of the reasons I am mobile and back on my feet again.
